Gentle New Year

Karen DeMamiel | JAN 6

The New Year Without the Pressure

I’ve never been drawn to resolutions, diets, or the idea of a new year, new you. Extremes don’t feel sustainable to me. What does feel supportive is setting intentions, creating gentle goals, and establishing rhythms that align with real life.

As someone with ADHD, routines have always been challenging. Over time, through homeschooling, running a small ranch, and caring for a busy household, I’ve learned that structure is still necessary. It just needs to be flexible and compassionate.

This past year brought significant change. I sent my oldest off to college in another state, rescued a horse and stepped into the learning curve of riding, and transitioned away from the homeschool charter we had used for six years to fully homeschool on my own. These shifts were meaningful, exciting, and also deeply felt in my body.

As the year ended, I allowed myself to rest. I slowed down, spent time with my kids, enjoyed holiday treats, and embraced being present without productivity.

Now, I feel ready to ease back into routine.

I’m returning to nourishing meals, movement, and teaching yoga. I’m spending more time outside, hiking with my kids, and welcoming new creative projects within my soap business.

Rather than rushing into the year, I’m honoring winter as a season of restoration and reflection. My word for this year is slow.

I’m choosing intention over urgency and presence over burnout.

What daily or weekly rhythms would feel supportive?

If you’re looking for support as you transition into the year, I invite you to join my online yoga classes, offered three days a week. These practices are designed to calm the nervous system, build strength and mobility, and help you move with awareness and ease. I’ll also be offering a one-day winter retreat as we approach spring.

This season is not about doing more. It’s about listening, restoring, and moving forward with intention.

I have recorded a 15-minute full body yoga stretch that is perfect for the morning, or anytime you need to reset, release tension, and come back into your body. We’ll move slowly and intentionally, stretching the entire body while creating space for ease and clarity.

No goals. No pressure. Just time to move, breathe, and begin again. Let's start the new year with gentle movement and mindful breath together.

My virtual yoga classes offer a simple, accessible way to practice from the comfort of your own home. Using Zoom, you can join live classes from anywhere—no commuting, no rushing—just space to move, breathe, and reconnect. The flexibility of online practice allows you to choose what works best for your schedule while still feeling guided and supported.

Classes are intentionally designed for all levels, with options and modifications offered so you can meet your body exactly where it is on any given day. Whether you’re looking for gentle regulation, mindful movement, or a steady, consistent practice, there’s room for you here.

Each week, I send out an email with the upcoming class schedule, and you can always find the current offerings under the Schedule tab. Come as you are, practice at your own pace, and stay connected beyond this short reset.
