Spring Renewal
Karen DeMamiel | MAR 14
I think that I have become a person who thinks the new year should begin in spring. I have always been a lover of all seasons, but with that being said, I have grown up in Southern California almost all my life, so I guess when I say I enjoy winter, it's not a true winter. Not only that, but I love the holidays, the cold weather, and the permission to slow down. As someone who has a hard time slowing down, being still, winter has permitted me to reflect, to rest. My brain wants to move onto wants next like tomorrow. This winter, the first with my son away at college, was different. I wanted to do all the "things" when he was here, but having a small animal farm, sickness taking its turns, and my husband's work schedule did not allow it. I found myself forced to just be still. We watched movies, I got way into puzzles I even read a book. I made myself journal my thoughts, and I made myself get at least 10k steps a day. The beginning of this year and winter was good and hard; in between sickness, we did get to visit our son and play in some snow, but then came home to one of our beloved pups dying. I am learning life can be really hard and pretty sweet at the same time. They can live alongside each other. When things are hard, I tend to wallow. This year, I tried to be intentional about not allowing myself to do that, I tried to protect my peace, and really looked for the good in everything. For me, being outside helps me a lot. Now we are here with spring upon us. Horse, goat, and dog hair are everywhere, the pasture is full of green, and the sun is setting later. On Friday, March 20th, is the spring equinox. Known as the vernal equinox, this event marks the point where the sun crosses directly over the Earth's equator, moving from south to north, creating roughly 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night, meaning "equal night" in Latin. I am ready for spring, ready for movement and growth, ready to nourish. That is why I am hosting a spring yoga event on my ranch on Saturday, March 21st. A beautiful way to welcome spring and step into a new season of growth, movement, and connection. Join me on the ranch for a nourishing morning filled with:
An all-level Yoga Class
Journaling & reflection
Animal snuggles
Snacks & fresh air
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
*option to come at 8:30 am for a light hike/walk
