Teen Strength Class
Karen DeMamiel | JAN 29
As a homeschool mom of a high schooler, I am always looking for ways for my daughter to make exercise fun. Well, I think it is fun. I created this 25-minute Sculpt class with homeschool teens in mind—but it truly works for any teen looking for a fun, empowering way to move their body. It’s short enough to fit easily into a school day, after-school routine, or busy family schedule. And yes—this is absolutely a class moms (or dads!) can jump into too.
This class blends light strength work, balance training, and mindful movement in a way that feels supportive—not intense or intimidating. Think: strong but approachable, focused yet playful.
Why Sculpt for Teens?
Teen years are a powerful time to build:
Strength and bone density
Balance and coordination
Body awareness and confidence
Healthy movement habits that last into adulthood
Sculpt adds gentle resistance (bodyweight and optional light weights) to traditional yoga poses, helping teens feel strong while staying connected to breath and alignment.
No prior yoga experience is needed.
Perfect for Homeschool & Family Fitness
This class was designed to:
Fit easily into a homeschool PE requirement
Encourage body awareness and independence
Offer a shared movement experience for teens and parents
Many moms find it’s the perfect midday reset—and a meaningful way to move with their teens instead of just driving them to activities.
Why We Focus on Balance, One-Legged Work & Moving in All Planes
One-legged poses aren’t just “hard yoga poses.” They are incredibly important for growing bodies—especially when combined with movement in all planes of motion.
The body is designed to move:
Forward and back (sagittal plane)
Side to side (frontal plane)
With rotation and twisting (transverse plane)
This class intentionally includes movement in all three planes to support whole-body strength and coordination.
Benefits include:
Improved balance and coordination
Stronger ankles, knees, hips, and spine
Increased bone density through varied weight-bearing movement
Better posture, agility, and body awareness
Moving in all planes helps teens build resilient bodies that adapt well to sports, daily life, and long-term joint health.
Optional Equipment
Yoga mat
Light dumbbells (1–5 lbs) optional
Barefoot or supportive shoes
A Gentle, Empowering Approach
This class is not about pushing harder or burning out. It’s about:
Learning how the body works
Feeling capable and strong
Building confidence through mindful movement
Teens are encouraged to listen to their bodies, rest when needed, and celebrate progress—on and off the mat.
